Things to See and Do
3 Top Destinations to Visit in Ireland 2010
Below is our recommendations on the three top destinations's to visit in Ireland in 2010. Each Destination has three wonderful day tours associated with the destination. All the below destinations and regions are focal points on our tours of Ireland. Each destination and touring region represents the very best of Ireland from vibrant towns and cities to wild natural scenery, historic attractions, ancient sights and interesting pubs and nightlife.
Dublin City - Boyne Valley, Wicklow Mountains & Kildare County.
Dublin Is the Capital of Ireland and for touring there is still no better destination. The city is full of charm, character and a bustling life that is hard to match elsewhere on the island. The attractions are breathtaking. To name a few, Guinness Brewery, Trinity College & The Book of Kells, Phoenix Park,National Gallery, Kilmainham Jail & The shops of Grafton Street.
For Day tours out of Dublin City there are three great options.
Wicklow Mountains - Glendalough, Sally Gap, Powerscourt & a side trip to Johnny Foxes Pub in Glencullen.
The Boyne Valley - Historically one of the richest archaeological regions in the World with highlights such as Newgrange, Knowth, Hill of Tara & Trim Castle.
Kildare County Tour - The National Stud / Japanese Gardens. Include a trip to Castletown House, the finest Palladian Mansion in Ireland.
Cork City - East Cork / Cobh, Kinsale / Charles Fort & West Cork Coast.
Cork City was voted by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2010.
There are good reasons for this. Located in the south of the country it has a southern feel and is the antithesis of Dublin having amore laid back and rebellious tone. The City has many attractions from the wonderful Old English Market, Lewis Glucksman Gallery & Cork City Jail.
For Day Trips out of Cork City there are three great options.
East Cork, Cobh & Middleton - Visit Cobh Heritage Centre, the last port of call for the doomed Titanic on its maiden transatlantic voyage, sample Irelands finest whiskey at Middleton and visit the largest cathedral in the country.
Kinsale & South Cork - Undisputed gourmet town par excellence as well as wonderful star shaped Charles Fort, quaint walking streets and the most beautiful golf course on earth.
West Cork Villages - full of gems from the ancient stone Circle at Drombeg, Mizen Head Lighthouse and many pretty villages from Schull to Baltimore to Crookhaven & Glandore.
Killarney Town - Ring of Kerry, Dingle Bay & Beara Peninsula
Killarney is the undisputed capital of Irish Tourism for many good reasons. Nestled at the foot of Irelands highest mountains and surrounded by lakes, rivers, valleys, glens and beautiful scenery at every turn this town is a marvelous base for a tour. For three great day Tours from Killarney we recommend the following.
Muckross House & Ring of Kerry Tour - Muckross House & Gardens is Ireland at its most serene and beautiful. Also visit Torc Waterfall close to the estate. Finally The Ring of Kerry has too many highlights to mention but is mostly noted for its lovely lakes and mountains.
Kenmare & Beara Peninsula Tour - Kenmare would be our choice for Irelands prettiest small town. The shops are adorable and many fine cafes, restaurants and pubs. The Beara Peninsula is a hidden gem with extraordinary scenery. Healy Pass is a highlight.
Dingle Peninsula & Gap of Dunloe Tour - Dingle is Irelands most celebrated rugged coastline with islands, mountains, narrow roads and traditional lifestyles. The Gap of Dunloe is a tour into Ireland in the 1950's where time has stood still and nature is all around.
