Chirping is one vocalization of the Cheetah!
When a cheetah attempts to find another, or a mother tries to locate her cubs, it uses a high-pitched barking called chirping. The chirps made by a cheetah cub sound more like a bird chirping, and so are termed chirping, too. What other vocalizations (sounds) do the cheetah make? more

Did you know.....Modern research has clarified the relationships among the "jackal" species. Despite their similarities, jackals do not all stem from the same branch on the canid family tree. The side-striped jackal and black-backed (aka Silver-backed) jackal belong to a branch of canids that includes the dhole and African wild dog, while golden jackal, on the other hand, belongs to a branch which includes the Ethiopian wolf, the coyote, and Canis lupus, the grey wolf/domestic dog. #jackalfacts more

THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVELY REVIEW ON TripAdvisor - “Excellent service”

A superb reserve in the Karoo, giving you that very special karoo experience. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and luxurious with sweeping views of the karoo velt. The food was superb and the staff very friendly. On returning from an evening game drive, cold and tired it was a wonderful surprise to find a hot bath waiting for me just ready to jump in and relax before a wonderful dinner more

Update on 2 Spotty Ladies-Bellini, the new girl at Samara who was released from the boma on the 14 April 2012, is doing extremely well in providing for herself in the wild and has even been seen socializing with one of the male cheetahs which has us all holding our collective breath for the pitter patter of little paws in the not too distant future. more

NEW BLOG POST from our Volunteers
"VOLUNTEERS GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY
Many parts of the Karoo including the land on which Samara is situated today has a long history of farming and unfortunately poor farming practices in some areas such as overstocking has lead to the degradation of natural vegetation, which has subsequently promoted soil erosion. It has been a priority for Samara to restore both the land and the abundant wildlife of the Karoo to its natural state prior to European settlement, as more

Max de Morgan, the baby meerkat rescued on Samara, and taken to Noah's Arc in Graaff-Reinet, can be seen here learning to forage for food. Food is placed in the hole and covered up and Max is left to find the scent and dig up his dinner. Currently his diet is still being supplemented after these lessons to ensure that he is getting enough. Max's diet consists of meal worms, crickets, kitten food (with warm milk and egg mixed in) and small portions of chicken meat. more
